Dhaka,Bangladesh
The Buriganga river is strangling in waste, with growing activity of the plastics industry implemented on its shores, and a complete lack of governmental regulations.
The Buriganga River was once used as the main source of water supply for Dhaka's residents. Due to devastating pollution it now can no longer be used as a source of drinking water or for domestic use.
According to the Department of Environment (DoE), a total of 232 industries are currently dumping waste into the Buriganga River as they have no Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP). The high growing plastic industries in Old Dhaka have destroyed the river.
